I’ve been thinking recently, why are people impersonating nerds? What is appealing? I’m sorting through this topic as I write this.
What is so puzzling is that the meaning or ‘Nerd’ straight out of a dictionary is: “a foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious.”. I’ve heard people say stuff like: “I’ve watched an episode of ___– I’m such a nerd. ” OR “I’m on the computer a lot–I’m such a nerd.”. This makes no sense! Right now, you can’t use Dr. Who to discern who is a nerd and who isn’t. It’s a popular show right now.
So many people misuse the word ‘nerd’, or ‘geek’. Here are 3 ways to tell if you are misusing ‘nerd’, or not. Here are the words that describe Nerds.
1. Socially Awkward
Aren’t the best at socializing, with ordinary people. You can most certainly be besties as a nerd, with a nerd.
Smart, Brainy– AKA: Pays attention in class. OR Wants to learn.
3. Physically Inept
Non-Athletic, Not Sporty– AKA: Doesn’t have a favorite sport, reason being: I am weak, and running hurts.
As for why nerds are popular, I don’t know. It’s a fad. Maybe it started with a really cool nerd that people started looking up to, and impersonating.
I have no idea.
